Patricia Bou Franch has an interesting discussion of the Pragmatics Conference of the Americas and 5th International Conference on Intercultural Pragmatics here.
I have maintained that although the technology and design aspect ("new tools and forms of digital discourse") of computer mediated communication (CMC) will continue to evolve that, the nature of CMC and computer mediated discourse (CMD) will not change because it cannot. Both CMC and CMD are cybernetic and cannot be otherwise. It is just that simple. Notwithstanding, platforms such as Twitter illustrate just how technology can alter or moderate the capacity of CMC/CMD, for better or worse. In the case of Twitter, the platform is just fine for applications suitable to its limitations but quite unsuitable for applications which require more discourse capacity.
